Species loss is detrimental for forest stand volume and these effects strengthen with age in forests

URPP GCB 's Pascal Niklaus, Bernhard Schmid and co-authors found that directed species loss may severely hamper productivity in already diverse young forests in a recent publication in Nature Ecology and Evolution. Read the paper to find out how by simulating random and non-random extinction scenarios in an experimental subtropical Chinese forest, the researchers find that species loss is detrimental for stand volume and these effects strengthen with age.
