URPP Global Change and Biodiversity

The first World Biodiversity Forum takes place in Davos, Switzerland in February 2020

The unprecedented decline in species diversity and the impact of such a loss of diversity on ecosystems and human well-being is not as acknowledged as much as the threats of climate change.  Strategies to address the alarming rate of biodiversity loss is on the program at the World Bio­di­ver­si­ty Fo­rum organized by the University of Zurich, University Priority Program on Global Change and Biodiversity and bioDISCOVERY in Davos, Switzerland next week.

In January 2020, biologists in Switzerland reported that the insect population in Switzerland has dramatically declined by about 90%. The global picture is as bleak, with one million animal and plant species threatened with extinction through unsustainable use and exploitation.
